Not too long ago, FilmDistrict dropped a trio of Olympus Has Fallen character banners showing off the action movie's supporting cast.

But those didn't properly show off the movie's procession of explosions and gunfire, so now we have an Olympus Has Fallen featurette jammed to the gills with both of those things happening mostly in and around landmarks in Washington D.C.

John McClane is back! Yippee Ki-Yay Mother…. Well, you know how that goes.

On Valentine’s Day, February 14th, Bruce Willis returns to the franchise that made him a household name almost twenty-five years ago with A Good Day to Die Hard, which is the fifth installment of the popular action franchise and was directed by John Moore (Max Payne). Willis first gained attention in the ‘1980s for his role as wise cracking private detective David Addison on the groundbreaking TV series Moonlighting, but it was his portrayal of everyman police officer John McClane in director John McTeirnan’s almost perfect Die Hard that made him a box office superstar. Since then the actor as appeared in such popular films as The Last Boy ScoutPulp Fiction, 12 Monkeys, The Fifth Element, Armageddon, The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Sin City, Red, and most recently Looper, and Moonrise Kingdom, which earned him a Best Supporting Actor-nomination at this year’s Independent Spirit Awards. But it is the character of John McClane and the Die Hard franchise that he is known for best!

As a lifelong Die Hard fan, it was an absolute thrill for me when I recently had a chance to attend an intimate press conference, along with a few other members of the press, and speak to Bruce Willis about A Good Day to Die Hard, the overall series, and the legacy of John McClane.

Yet Another Rain-Soaked 'Riddick' Image

Monday, 11 February 2013 13:13

There's a new image from Riddick making the rounds, one that shows that titular Furyan in the rain with a futuristic backpack and a huge blade capable of doing very ugly things to alien flesh.

Last month, a picture of Vin Diesel as Richard B. Riddick showed that this sequel will involve no small amount of rainfall.  Shortly thereafter, a still from the film kept things dry between Diesel and returning The Chronicles of Riddick actor Karl Urban, but last week, another Riddick image continued the downpour.  Now we have yet another image of the shiny-headed antihero in a torrential rainstorm.

Opening in theaters on Valentine's Day, Thursday, February 14th is A Good Day to Die Hard, the fifth installment of the extremely popular Die Hard franchise. The film was directed by John Moore (Max Payne), and once again stars Bruce Willis (The Expendables 2) as underdog hero John McClane, a role he created almost twenty-five years ago. In addition to Willis, the movie also features Jai Courtney (Jack Reacher) as his outcast son Jack McClane, as well as Sebastian Koch (Unknown), Yuliya Snigir (Obitaemyy ostrov), Radivoje Bukvic (Taken), Cole Hauser (2 Fast 2 Furious), Amaury Nolasco (The Rum Diary), and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Smashed) reprising her role as Lucy McClane.

IAR's Managing Editor Jami Philbrick recently had a chance to sit down with Jai Courtney to talk about his work on A Good Day to Die Hard. The talented young actor discussed the new film, joining the beloved franchise, the McClane's difficult father and son relationship, why part of his character's backstory was cut from the movie, if it was ever considered that Jack might say the famous Die Hard catchphrase in this installment instead of John, Willis' confirmation to Courtney that there will be a Die Hard 6, and the possibility of John and the McClane children having to say their mom (Bonnie Bedelia) in the next film.

Earlier this week, we got a look at a new banner for next month's Olympus Has Fallen featuring a very tense-looking Gerard Butler over an image of the White House aflame and the tagline, "When our flag falls, our nation will rise."  Now, both Aaron Eckhart and Morgan Freeman have banners of their own, each actor getting his gravitas on atop the same image.

FilmDistrict took some its letting the world see any substantial promotion for next month's Olympus Has Fallen.  Now that it has started showing off the actioner, though, FilmDistrict just can't stop unveiling new bits of marketing for the White House-set thriller.  You know that old saying, "Once you start promoting Olympus Has Fallen, it's tough to stop promoting Olympus Has Fallen."

The latest examples of this truism are two new official Olympus Has Fallen photos, along with a banner that effectively conveys the concept using two succinct images and the tagline "When our flag falls our nation will rise."

On behalf of IAR, our sister music site ArtistDirect had a chance to sit down with Sung Kang and Sarah Shahi, as well as veteran director Walter Hill to talk about their work on Bullet to the Head. The iconic director discussed how he got involved in the project, making an homage to the classic action films of the '70s and '80s, and why he thinks all of his movies are basically Westerns, while the two actors talked about working with Hill and Sylvester Stallone, shooting in New Orleans, and what it's like to be punched in the stomach by Rocky

If you didn't see the Indonesian film The Raid – released in Stateside theaters last year as The Raid: Redemption – then you missed out on the finest action movie in years.  It's one hundred minutes of gorgeously photographed and edited action that is comprehensible yet brain-bruising in its brutality and inventiveness.  And it's getting a sequel.

Merantau Films and XYZ Films announced the commencement of principal photography on The Raid 2, and in order to prove the impossibly good news, they also supplied several official images from the sequel, including a few behind-the-scenes pictures.

Dominic Toretto and Brian O'Conner have come so far in the four movies since they first lived life a quarter mile at a time in 2000's The Fast and the Furious.  And now we have a pretty good idea of just what their next adventure will entail, as Universal Pictures has released the first official synopsis for the sixth installment, hitting theaters this summer.
