Opening in theaters on October 4th is the new comedy/drama All Is Bright from director Phil Morrison (Junebug). The film stars Paul Giamatti (John Dies at the End), Paul Rudd (This Is 40), and Sally Hawkins (Blue Jasmine).

IAR's very own New York Correspondent Justine Browning recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Paul Giamatti for an extended conversation about his work on All Is Bright, as well as his highly anticipated upcoming film The Amazing Spider-Man 2, his appearance on Downton Abbey, and his FX pilot Hoke. The Academy Award-nominated actor discussed his new film, his character, what he's trying to prove as an actor, what he was nervous about conveying with this role, working with Paul Rudd, if he wasn't an actor what he would be doing, why his career has turned out the way it has, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, his approach to playing The Rhino, joining the cast of Downton Abbey, and his upcoming FX pilot Hoke

If you don't have time to watch our video, you can read what Paul Giamatti had to say about his role in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 below:

IAR: Did you look at any of the classic Spider-Man comic books for either inspiration or research in order to create the character of The Rhino in The Amazing Spider-Man 2?

Paul Giamatti: I drew a lot that I remembered from the comics. There was a cartoon when I was a kid that was a very weird, psychedelic Spider-Man cartoon that I remember The Rhino from. So a lot of it was drawn from like a weird memory I had. I look a little bit at the old comic book stuff but its all being invented for the movie. So a lot of it was what was going to strike me as fun when I read it on the page and looking at the Russian criminal types that exist now in the world. And playing around with the stereotypes of it frankly, and the cliches of it is fun. Then, he is an animal. He is literally like an animal. He is really stupid. He is not smart. He is literally just this big, dumb beast, and that was really fun to do. He is not smart! So that was a fun thing to do. And I got to speak in russian and all that stuff, so it was fun.

SYNOPSIS:

In All Is Bright, paroled ex-convict Dennis (Giamatti) reluctantly takes a job selling Christmas trees with his old buddy Rene (Rudd) in order to make enough money to buy his estranged daughter the piano she's always wanted.

All Is Bright opens in theaters on October 4th.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is scheduled for release on May 2nd, 2014.
