Gisborne and Hawkes Bay: A few showers about Gisborne this morning, but widespread rain developing this evening.
Wanganui and Taihape to Wellington, also Wairarapa, Marlborough and Nelson: A period of rain, with brief heavy falls and possible thunderstorms.
Buller, Westland and Fiordland: Rain with heavy falls, turning to showers this afternoon, some heavy and possibly thundery. Clearing from south Westland and northern Fiordland later.
Canterbury: Scattered rain, mainly about the High Country this morning, but becoming widespread this evening.
Otago and Southland: Rain and cold southerlies developing this morning, with a few heavy falls, then easing later.
