Wow, this was way more difficult than I thought it would be. I excluded Fall Out Boy and Paramore because arguably, both of those albums could be considered pop even though they are guitar albums (which is, I guess, what you were looking for).
Kacey Musgraves - Same Trailer, Different Park
I’m totally guilty of being into this new wave of country music spearheaded by young women and not particularly interested in the dudes in it. Who cares? Kacey Mugraves deserves all the attention that she’s getting. This album’s scenery is beautiful.
Pistol Annies - Annie Up
It’s kind of incredible that Miranda Lambert is a big deal and she decided to pull up two other (extremely talented) women with her. “Hush Hush” the uptempo highlight of this, but the ballads are lovely, too.
Marnie Stern - The Chronicles of Marnia
Almost not sure if I am allowed to include this because she made a song called “You Don’t Turn Down” which is obviously a hip hop move. All kidding aside, the guitars and drums in this hit like a wave. I haven’t felt this way about another “indie rock” record all year.
Los Campesinos! - No Blues
I think this band outgrew me. This is easily my least favorite Campesinos! album, but it was also one of the few guitar albums I listened to this year.
And because I can’t ride for either full album:
1/2 of Haim - Days Are Gone and 1/2 of Phoenix - Bankrupt
