Temples - Mesmerise

I LOVE ROCK N ROLL. I LOVE ROCK N ROLL. I could go into the many reason to why I do but why bore you with a long read that would be a poor excuse for the english language. Not to mention, I wouldn’t want real writers weeping and scoffing at the abundance of grammatical errors. Now if you’ll excuse me I’m going to have my face melted and feel my heart explode.

Previously, shared this band over a year ago, one I find I’m still in love with. They’ve released an EP and a handful of 7-inches, more recently one thru favorites, Fat Possum. Keep an eye out for their full-length due out Feb 11th, 2014 thru Fat Possum It’s going to be a brain melter.

If you find your self in NYC tonight brave the weather and head to Union Pool and if you’re in my hometown DC tomorrow night make sure you head out to DC9 for their last stop on their US fall tour before they head home.

Kickstarter you should back: Singles Club

I backed this Kickstarter project earlier this week, because, ya know, vinyl! Couple creative and driven buds of mine have a subscription 7” record club and music journal project that they want to publish quarterly. Along with each release they’re publishing a digital “journal” that highlight the artist and what drives them to do what they do. Their plan is to not have this be just another blog or even a blog at all but a very well curated and crafted online magazine with photo essays, interviews and video features.

I recommend this Kickstarter because I know this team will deliver high quality and wouldn’t deliver a cassette box set and t-shirt over a year later…

Angel Olsen - Forgiven/Forgotten

Gimme dat new new [edgier] Angel Olsen! New album Burn Your Fire For No Witness, out Feb. 18 2014, on Jagjaguwar.

Slaughter Beach - Spinning Globe

They just started following me on twitter, I usually make it a habit to stalk look at my new followers just to see if they’re up to anything interesting. So i figured I’d click thru to their soundcloud link in their 160-character story. With a band name Slaughter Beach hailing from Denmark you’d be expecting something a little thrashy, lo-fi and possibly “punkish”. What I came to find out was this track above which is a lot more 70s power-pop rock-n-roll.

Emily Reo - Spell

This is effin’ special. I must be getting more sensitive as I grow older but a little after the 3 minute mark, my eyes started to get a little watery.

Damn dudes.

Hat tip Portals for doing this rooftop session.

Emma McKenna - The Might

You know those tunes that you mentally have a knockout, drag out, fight with? After hearing Emma’s song, Final Cut, it put my heart and head toe to toe with each other. Brain said, “Gimme those strings heart!”, then heart replied “No”. Thusly, starting a tug of war causing everything to seize up causing me to change from my unergonomic position on the couch to sit up straight and pay attention to what was entering my brain.

Then this came on. Damn, Girl.

Tonight’s @braidsmusic set was so ethereal. The new songs translate so nicely to a live setting. Technical challenges and all. (at DC9) View in High-Res
