 Abrustine Wine

Advertisements

Abrustine is an ancient – and near-extinct – red wine grape from Tuscany. Its plantings are limited to those found in the Vitiarium vine museum of the Agricola San Felice winery, in Castelnuovo Berardenga (twenty minutes east of Siena).

At present just one producer is making wines from the variety. The wine, made from 100% Abrustine, is named Sempremai Sorte, presumably in reference to the uncertainty of Abrustine's fate. Sempremai is a synthesis of sempre ('always') and mai ('never'), while sorte means 'fate'. It is labeled under the IGT Toscana title (Abrustine is not sanctioned for use in Tusany's DOCs).
