Complementing the more mainstream attractions of the Brighton Festival, the festival fringe hosts a packed calendar of events that seem to take over every available venue.
A range of attractions include stand-up comedy, international cabaret, dance, theatre and circus.
Fringe theatre events take place all over the town and the surrounding area, including some unusual locations such as Newhaven Fort, Lewes Castle, museums and many of the city's extensive collection of churches, pubs and studio theatres.
On Saturdays throughout May Brighton showcases Fringe City, an action-packed street party that transforms the centre of Brighton into an open-air venue for music, theatre, dance, comedy and circus acts. This is the way in which fringe performers promote their shows, and it ensures that Brighton's already vibrant streets are alive with flamboyant theatricality throughout the festival month.
