Rossini Opera Festival

10.08.14 - 22.08.14
Pesaro, Italy

The Pesaro opera festival - as it is known to many performers after its host town, which is Giacomo Rossini's birthplace - was set up in 1980 to raise global awareness of some of the lesser known of his 35 or so operas, and if the work of his contemporaries. Many have since become part of the standard operatic repertoire.

Pesaro is on the eastern coast of Italy, in the relatively undiscovered region of Le Marche. Operas are performed in the Adriatic Arena, the more intimate Teatro Rossini and the relatively recent (and smaller still) Teatro Sperimentale, where the emphasis is on obscure works by Rossini's contemporaries such as Coccia, Generali and Mosca.

Highlights of the 2013 programme include a focus on the life and music of William Tell.
