Lord Advocate (Scotland)
The Lord Advocate is the principal Law Officer of the Scottish Government and the Crown in Scotland for both civil and criminal matters that fall within the jurisdiction of the Scottish Parliament His Office corresponds with that of the Attorney General in England, and he one of the Great Officers of State of Scotland.
He or she may be either a Member of the Scottish Parliament, or a Member of the House of Lords, but need not necessarily be either. Since devolution, the Scotland Act 1998 provides that the Lord Advocate is automatically a Member of the Scottish Executive.
How to Address the Lord Advocate
The recommended social style of address is as follows:
