Choosing a Planner
The couple should work out the level of planning required. There are one-off services, those who charge an hourly fee, a range of packages and full co-ordination services available. A good planner should take the couple's expectations and visions of the big day and translate them into reality.
Where possible, the bride and groom should follow personal recommendations or remember well-planned weddings that they have attended. They should interview several different planners to see whose manner and outlook best matches their expectations.
A good wedding co-ordinator will be adept at working to a budget, managing tricky family situations, dealing with crises and brokering deals. They should be flexible and listen to the bride and groom.
A wedding planner's unique value lies in their contacts. They should come armed with a range of trusted suppliers such as wedding florists, wedding caterers, photographers and musicians. It should be confirmed whether the planner or one of their representatives would be present on the wedding day (if full co-ordination is required).
