How to Manage Pips, Stones and Bones

Pips and Stones

Pips and stones (cherry, olive etc.) should be discreetly spat into a cupped left hand and deposited on the side of the plate or discarded.

Bones

It is usually not appropriate to pick up bones and gnaw on them. However, if you are at an informal gathering, such as a barbecue or picnic, it is fine to eat a chicken wing or spare rib with your fingers. If you find a piece of bone in your mouth, manoeuvre it to the front from where it can be discreetly removed with thumb and forefinger and placed on the side of your plate.
