Torbay Week

22.08.14 - 27.08.14
Devon

A celebration of all things nautical in one of Devon's most spectacular settings, this is an ideal outing for families, walkers and land-lubbers, as well as sailors and yachting enthusiasts.

This is the fourth year in which the regattas at Torbay, Paignton and Brixham have been combined into one event in this sheltered bay in the 'English Riviera'.

There is plentiful sailing for a range of 17 classes - with Paignton and Babbacombe running the dinghy racing, while Brixham and Royal Torbay run the yacht racing. Five courses are set on each of the three days of racing, offering a spectacular sight, with brightly coloured spinnakers filling the bay. There are junior and cadet classes for experienced young sailors as well as novices.

The sailing takes place in a sweeping horseshoe-shaped bay, which offers many spectating opportunities. Best views are available from Hopes Nose, on the northern tip of the bay, Meadfoot Beach, Daddyhole Plain, and Torquay, Paignton and Brixham harbours. In the south Berry Head is a large promontory that offers a commanding view of the action.

Throughout the week there is a full programme of entertainment at the various yacht clubs: Babbacombe, Brixham, Paignton, Royal Torbay. As well as Food & Drink, there is music, entertainment, parties, discos, hog races, fancy dress balls, and an aerial display by the Red Arrows.
