There can be few lovelier cities in which to start your spring keep-fit campaign.
Join 35,000 competitors at 8.45am, and follow a scenic route that takes from the Champs Elysées Avenue to Foch Avenue, taking in Rue de Rivoli, Bastille, Nation, Vincennes and les Tuileries. Every runner is given a coloured bib which relates to their target time (3:00, 3:15, 3:30, 3:45, 4:00, 4:15, 4:30 or more).
Pacemakers holding balloons corresponding to the colour of your bib will be present in each of the Starting Areas, 30 minutes before the start.
The Paris Marathon is a historic event, dating back to 1896, when just 191 runners were competing and the race was won by Len Hurst, an Englishman.
The Paris Marathon 2013 is open to everyone, and the 40,000 places are allocated on a first come, first served basis. The first 16,000 places will be allocated on 15 September; you can register online, and will be required to provide a medical certificate.
