April 2014Gateshead Jazz Festival
Tyneside hosts the annual Gateshead Jazz Festival, a weekend feast for jazz-lovers. The festival attracts an eclectic array of performers to Tyneside. In 2011 festival featured Debbie Harry, Soweto Kinch, Cleveland Watkiss and Adam Fairhall.
Evening gigs take place at the Sage, Gateshead, a landmark building deigned by Lord Foster on a waterfront site, which boasts several performance spaces, a Music Education Centre, four bars, a café and brassserie.
Over the weekend there is also a full programme of workshops, conversations and improvisation sessions and masterclasses with many of Britain's leading jazz performers.
Some of the line up for 2014 includes: headliners Django Bates and the Norrbotten Big Band, The Spring Quartet and Robert Glasper.
