Founded in 1932 and the oldest film festival in the world, Venice is a cineaste's dream. Set against the glamorous backdrop of the Venice Lido, the Festival is centred on the Palazzo del Cinema, an Art Deco building that was inAugusturated in 1937.
The Golden Lion award is awarded to the best film screened at the festival and is one of the most prestigious in international cinema. Recent winners include: Mike Leigh's Vera Drake, Ang Lee's Brokeback Mountain, Jia Zhangke's Still Life, Ang Lee's Lust, Caution and Darren Aronofsky's The Wrestler.
2013 sees the 70th Festival, and the Director of this anniversary year will be Alberto Barbera.
