The interface between Her Majesty The Queen and the general public is the Royal Household. Employing some 1,200 people, the Household is not only responsible for catering, housekeeping and entertaining, but ceremonial duties, art curatorship and strategic planning.

The Lord Chamberlain - aided by the Lord Steward and Master of the Horse - is responsible for the administration of the Royal Household.

Two Great Officers of State, the Lord Great Chamberlain and the Earl Marshal, are responsible for the conduct of royal affairs both within the Palace of Westminster and on State occasions.
