Redolent of long, languorous summer days and traditional picnic teas yet packed with edge-of-the-seat drama, Test cricket inspires devotion among spectators around the globe, not least in the country in which the sport took seed.
Dating back to at least the 13th century and England's national summer sport by the late 18th century, cricket finds its ultimate expression - and sternest competition - in Test matches. The latter began during the English cricket team's tour of Australia in 1877 and now involves 10 nations.
Glamorgan's SWALEC Stadium will be hosting the first of the Test matches, against Sri Lanka, in the 2011 series.
The Glamorgan County Cricket Club was formed on 6 July 1888. Since 1921 the Club has won the English County Championship in 1948, 1969 and 1997. Its headquarters are at the SWALEC stadium in Cardiff, adjacent to the city centre and the River Taff, and one mile north of Cardiff Arms Park.
The ground underwent considerable redevelopment during the 2007 season, with an investment of £9.4 million in revamping the stadium - work was completed in 2008. The magnificent new complex seats approximately 16,000 people.
