The Chief Rabbi
The Chief Rabbinate of England evolved from the Rabbinate of the Great Synagogue, London, as the needs of Britain's growing Jewish population developed.
The Great Synagogue was established in Dukes Place in the City of London, but was destroyed by German bombs on 10 May 1941.
Lord Sacks has held the position of the Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth since 1991.
How to Address the Chief Rabbi
The recommended (social) style of address is as follows:

*Note: Traditionally, invitations to a married couple, when sent to their home address, are addressed to the wife alone, with both names being inscribed on the invitation card. It has become increasingly acceptable, however, to address the envelope with both names.
