Debrett’s is currently looking for an editor to cover maternity leave for Debrett’s People of Today. Published annually for over 30 years, People of Today celebrates those individuals who are positively influencing Britain and inspiring others through their achievements and leadership. The role offers the opportunity to work across all aspects of the publishing process and to get involved in other areas of the business. 

Job Specification:

-    Working with the Chief Executive, Publishing Director and Finance Manager to plan People of Today editorial and production schedules and budget.

-    Working with the Chief Executive, Publishing Director, Finance Manager and Junior Designer to plan all People of Today mailings.

-    Managing proof and order form returns and tracking response rates.

-    Updating the entries in People of Today for the new edition, using our abbreviations and house style.

-    Recommending new entrants for inclusion in People of Today, and removing those who no longer meet the criteria.

-    Overseeing all aspects of book and digital edition production.

-    Working with the PR and Marketing Manager on any press coverage or marketing strategies, including targeted mailings, email newsletters and engaging more regularly with People of Today entrants.

Skills and Experience Required:

-    Previous editorial and/or reference publishing experience.

-    Good attention to detail.

-    Confident telephone manner and interaction with high profile individuals. 

-    Good grasp of grammar and punctuation.

-    Excellent organisational skills.

-    Ability to manage own time and workload.

-    Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

-    Interest in current affairs.

Salary: 16,000 per annum

Debrett’s is looking to recruit an Office Junior to start immediately. As part of a vibrant, dedicated team, the right candidate will have the opportunity to become involved in a variety of tasks and will be expected to assist in many areas of the business. The right candidate will be fully supported in developing their professional skills and experience.

Job Specification:

Office Management and Team Support

-    Event support – planning, invite lists etc will require occasional weekend work and evening support. 

-    Filing.

-    Answering the telephones/customer service.

-    Managing and ordering office supplies.

-    Sorting and managing the office post.

-    Managing staff holiday charts.

-    Expenses (checking team expense submissions for approval).

-    General upkeep of the office.

-    Serves customers by backing-up receptionist; answering questions; forwarding messages; confirming customer orders; keeping customers informed of order status.

Skills and Experience Required:

IT, MS Office suite.

Office Experience - general, scheduling, telephone skills, typing, documentation skills, meeting planning, verbal communication, written communication, dependability, attention to detail, administrative writing skills. Further training can be provided. 

Personal Qualities:

Professional, self-motivated, adaptable, diplomatic and enthusiastic. Ability to work as part of a team. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Keen to progress, willing to learn and committed to developing themselves. An interest in luxury brands is an advantage but a willingness to get involved in all areas of the business is key. 
Must maintain strong administrative and organisational skills, excellent prioritising and time management, ability to work to tight deadlines, a competent standard of presentation.

Data Manager

Debrett’s is currently looking for an experienced data manager with an ability to work in Adobe InDesign and to manage the entire data-to-page proof process on the upcoming publication of our historic reference work, Debrett’s Peerage & Baronetage 2015. This unique reference work has been published regularly since 1769 and we are currently preparing our 149th edition, due to be published in December 2014.

Candidates would also be expected to have experience of managing and optimising CRM databases. 

Salary: £30,000 per annum 
Location: Mayfair, London
Job Type: 1 year contract

Mandatory:

- Expert knowledge of Adobe InDesign (2 years minimum production experience)

- A working knowledge of JavaScript, particularly with string parsing

- Experience of importing XML data to populate multi-page InDesign page templates

- Fastidious attention to detail

Beneficial:

- A working knowledge of using .jsx files specifically to aid InDesign production

- Production experience with database driven publications
