Government unveils Sandy Bay regeneration works

The Minister for Tourism and the Port, Neil Costa, yesterday officially inaugurated the new Sandy Bay after a considerable public investment to recover the beach.
The Sandy Bay project brought three ministries together in an inter-ministerial committee, Tourism, Environment and Technical Services which examined beach replenishment and other relevant issues.

Britain presses for ‘real action’ from Spain

Britain yesterday vowed to press the European Commission to ensure Spain takes ‘real action’ over continued delays at Gibraltar border.
The statement followed news that the Commission would send another border inspection next week to check on progress with the recommendations it made last year.

Top experts on early humans and World Heritage at Calpe 2014

The 2014 Calpe Conference will once again bring together top specialists in the study of early humans and experts in the field of World Heritage. Taking place at the John Mackintosh Hall, 18 to 21 September, it falls ahead of the forthcoming nomination of the Gibraltar Neanderthal caves (including Gorham’s Cave) and landscape for World Heritage Status.
New charity launches on World Drugs Day with message to Stay Clean

‘Stay Clean’, an organisation that aims to create awareness on drug related issues in Gibraltar, launches today on UN World Drugs Day.
The organisation – which is in the process of becoming a registered charity - will “focus on diverting persons who may be at risk from using substances that are harmful to their well-being.”

With the distant scent of an election in their lungs, due within the next 20 months, and a Budget looming next week, the Opposition yesterday launched a third tier to its pre-manifesto proposals. And it did so with a lunge into the Government’s financial management.
Frustrated by what they describe as a “wall of silence” in Parliament over the spending of public money invested in Credit Finance Company Ltd (GFCL), the GSD declared plans for the establishment of a Public Accounts Committee - were they to get into power – to have an oversight on how public money is being spent.

French strike disrupts Gibraltar air links
Wednesday, 25th June 2014
There were extensive delays yesterday for passengers hoping to land or depart Gibraltar’s airport, due to French air traffic controller’s strike.
All four flights destined for the Rock were delayed, with the Gatwick flight landing nearly seven hours later than expected.
