Formula 1 Season
September 2014Singapore Grand Prix
The first Asian Formula One street race, Singapore is also the first night race in Formula One history, with the race starting at 8pm - prime time for European television audiences. A bespoke, state-of-the-art lighting system will offer optimal visibility.
The track made its Formula One debut on 28 September 2008, when the Spanish driver Fernando Alonso of the Renault F1 team won the race.
The circuit in Marina Bay is 5.067 km in length, and speeds in excess of 300 km/h are reached along the Raffles Boulevard stretch. Turns 1, 2 and 3 were recently modified slightly to aid overtaking after there were several accidents in 2008.
Sebastian Vettel won the race in 2012 in the first of his four successive victories to put himself in strong contention to win his third championship.
