Salisbury Festival

24.05.14 - 08.06.14
Salisbury, Wiltshire

The beautiful cathedral town of Salisbury plays host to an annual festival that showcases a range of arts, from classical and contemporary music to theatre.

Major events take place in Salisbury Cathedral, a unique medieval masterpiece, Trafalgar Park, and Wilton Church, and in other locations in and around the town. Other historic landmarks, such as Stonehenge and Danebury Hillfort, are also incorporated into the event.

The event is launched in Salisbury's historic market square. At the Family Finale on the last day the ancient streets around the Cathedral Close will be filled with street theatre, music, dancing and fireworks.

The 2012 Festival programme was inspired by the themes of Brazilian culture, fire and celebration. Highlights included the free opening night, Le Concert de Feu where ever-lasting memories will be made as world-renowned French Company Les Commandos Percu dazzle audiences with magical music and flames in a pyrotechnic extravaganza.

The opening night also played witness to the unveiling of a new sculpture created by QinetiQ's young aerospace engineering apprentices, who had been working hard to create a spectacular sculpture since September 2011.

Ever rich in variety the Festival also comprised a world première composed by the internationally celebrated Jonathan Dove, The Walk from the Garden, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre performing Henry V, extraordinary theatrical juggling by Gandini Juggling and classical music with particular performances celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Celebrations at Salisbury Cathedral.
