International Partners in the Global Effort to Eliminate IDD

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)

The Micronutrient Initiative (MI)
MI is dedicated specifically to address micronutrient malnutrition through technical and operational support to countries, especially in salt iodization, food fortification and supplementation.

World Health Organization (WHO)
The WHO Department of Nutrition for Health and Development has a mandate to assess the magnitude of micronutrient malnutrition including iodine deficiency, to monitor the impact of control strategies.
Kiwanis International
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers that raises millions of dollars to fund UNICEF projects in more than a 100 countries in support of the IDD elimination campaign and is in a position to encourage and motivate its membership world-wide to actively participate in IDD elimination programs at the national level.

The U.S. Centers For Disease Control And Prevention (CDC)
The CDC is providing technical support and capacity development in monitoring and evaluation of iodine in urine and salt, through the activities of the Ensuring the Quality of Urinary Iodine Procedures (EQUIP) program as well as the International Resources Laboratories for Iodine Network (IRLI).

Salt Industries around the World
Experts in salt iodization and marketing of iodized salt are important partners in the global effort. They can encourage and educate salt manufacturers in different regions of the world to provide high quality and cost-effective iodized salt. Major salt industry partners include: The China National Salt Industry Corporation; EuSalt; The Salt Institute; Tata Chemicals and Brazil Salt Producers Association.
