University central administration staff

The University Central Administration Office is linked to the rectorship as the University’s management office and central administration. The Office’s responsibilities include drawing up and coordinating draft budgets and appropriations, in addition to authorising payments, recording entries in the Faroese public accounts financial management system (FSL) and monitoring any grants awarded. The Office is responsible for the University’s accounting and also administers funds, bursaries and grants.

Other tasks carried out by the Office are mostly related to statutory requirements and internal regulations, meetings in different committees, staff matters, journals, maintaining the registry (student enrolment, external examiners, examinations, diplomas and certificates, etc.), organising Board elections, preparing annual reports and other information materials, public courses, public lectures, prizes arranged by the University, study trip grants, cooperation and communication with other institutions in the Faroes and abroad.

International Office

The International Office offers guidance to students about studying in the Faroes or abroad, whether you are interested in short courses, long programmes, vocational training or academic degrees.

  • The International Office offers general guidance on studying abroad, as well as on opportunities to take courses/semesters abroad for students at the University of the Faroe Islands.
  • The International Office acts as the local information contact point for the NORDPLUS scheme in the Faroes.
  • The International Office arranges IELTS language testing in the Faroes, which usually takes place in May and November.
  • The International Office – Ask and get answers about studying. Anything. Anywhere.

The International Office is part of the University of the Faroe Islands and its offices are located on the same premises as the University Central Administration Office at J.C. Svabos gøta 14 in Tórshavn.

Administration for third parties

The University Central Administration Office also carries out administrative tasks on behalf of bodies other than the University:

  • The joint services Stovnarnir á Debesartrøð, which encompass joint caretaker services for the institutions located on Debesartrøð, staffed by two caretakers, as well as the shared IT Service led by the IT Manager.
  • The Faroese Academy of Sciences has, since it contributed to founding the University of the Faroe Islands, been closely associated with the University Central Administration Office. Any communication with and about the Academy took place through Maud Heinesen, who worked as secretary both for the University and the Academy from 1965 up until her retirement in 2003.  Publishing has featured prominently among The Faroese Academy of Sciences’ activities, but has now been transferred to the private company  Faroe University Press, which was jointly founded by the Academy and the University.

The University Central Administration Office also administrates several foundations governed by the University of the Faroe Islands.
