I suture the wound. I must staunch the flow.
The purists preen themselves but do not know

The strain of stitching, the fear in the squint,
As you try to purge the poisoned intent

Since the needle so sharp and thread of fire
The heart, still hurt, ignites into a pyre —

But life cannot be lived behind the walls
Reason mortars against the sudden falls

That hobble our plots to evade the nurse
Who readies us for the surgery of verse.
