Talking to @JuliaDavidovich About Internet Backlash and Tweeting in a Series

juliadavidovich

Julia Davidovich is a writer living in LA. She co-authored the book Stats Canada: Satire on a National Scale, and together with her friend Zoe Klar (@madamezooble), Davidovich runs Lady Parts Mag, whose website launching next year will feature parody Cosmopolitan magazine style articles to accompany their parody Cosmopolitan magazine covers. This week I talked to Davidovich about three of her favorite things she's ever tweeted. In our discussion we covered, among other topics, tweeting as part of a series, McRibs, and musician Mark McGrath.

I just wanted to display a very sarcastic statement about Charles Manson deserving this ridiculous marriage. Amazingly I received exactly zero backlash and across the board people understood it was a joke, and thank goodness, because I will be marrying Charles Manson in a simple Synagogue ceremony next year. Watch Trevor Noah Make His 'Daily Show' Debut

Back in October, Comedy Central announced that South African standup Trevor Noah would be joining The Daily Show as a contributor in December, and he made his debut last night to teach Jon a few things about his home country. It turns out that Africa isn't as bad as a lot of Americans think it is — in fact, some might say it's even better than the US.

President Obama Is Monday Night's 'Colbert Report' Guest

Earlier this week, Stephen Colbert revealed that Monday night's Colbert Report will be broadcast from Washington DC, and during last night's show he dropped an even bigger scoop — one of the guests of the star-studded episode will be President Barack Obama: "I cannot overstate how huge this is. The size of the hugeness? Large. I am so honored to be sitting down with the man who sat down with Bill O'Reilly."

Leaked Sony Documents Confirm That Adam Sandler Films "Have No More Value"

Sony has been dealing with the effects of a major hack from last week, and among the many leaked documents is a 25-page collection of Sony employee complaints that reveal even the people who make Adam Sandler movies hate Adam Sandler movies. Gawker combed through the complaints and highlighted some of the best digs at Sandler's expense:

Be more focussed and ruthless in directing our resources to businesses that will sustain the long term health of SPE – networks, broadcast TV shows, new movie franchises, digital distibution By the same token, stop or reduce support for areas that have no more value (Sandler movies, DVD)

There is a general "blah-ness" to the films we produce. Althought we manage to produce an innovative film once in awhile, Social Network, Moneyball, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, we continue to be saddled with the mundane, formulaic Adam Sandler films. Let's raise the bar a little on the films we produce, and inspire employees that they are working on the next Social Network. That said, there's a strange dichotomy of encouraging us to be fiscally responsible, but then upper management allows certain talent and filmmakers to bleed us dry with their outlandish requests for private jets, wardrobe and grooming stylists- and are surprised when they are asked to work more than 5 hours to promote their film.

This Week in Comedy Podcasts: Marc Maron Chats with Norman Lear

The comedy podcast universe is ever expanding, not unlike the universe universe. We're here to make it a bit smaller, a bit more manageable. There are a lot of great shows and each has a lot of great episodes, so we want to highlight the exceptional, the noteworthy. Each week our crack team of podcast enthusiasts and specialists and especially enthusiastic people will pick their favorites. We hope to have your ears permanently plugged with the best in aural comedy.

WTF with Marc Maron - Norman Lear
WTF_with_Marc_MaronMarc: As we round on the end of another year, it’s worth noting that podcasts are drawing guests of increasingly notable status. (True, a number of them think they’re doing a radio interview but, that aside, the pool is getting deeper and more interesting.) Marc Maron ventured forth from his garage this week to sit with television and film comedy legend Norman Lear. The creator of such historic and hysterical fare as All In The FamilyMaude, and Good Times, at the age of 92, has a lot to relate and Maron guides him thorough telling us some great highlights. As his guide, the host of WTF is using Lear’s recently published memoir, Even This I Get To Experience, and it’s great to hear some of the behind the scene stories brought to life. Like when, as a comedy writer, he received a gift from his then-boss Jerry Lewis back in the comedian’s heyday, only to be abruptly dismissed the next day. Or how executives from NBC had to sneak into CBS Studios in Los Angeles to watch a presentation of Sanford & Son because Lear’s home network passed on the project. Then there were the first two pilots he shot of All In The Family WITHOUT Rob Reiner in the role of Mike “Meathead” Stivic… Great stories within a great conversation. And one of the best things about Norman Lear being on a podcast? More legends will likely want to start doing them, too. READ MORE
