W’S “BEST PERFORMANCES” NOMINEES ARE OUT: W’s Movie Issue has named 2014 the year of the biopic — with “The Hunger Games” and comic book characters like Thor and Iron Man notable exceptions. The magazine’s February issue, which hits newsstands today, is dedicated to Hollywood’s “Best Performances,” and actors such as Julianne Moore, Shailene Woodley, Amy Adams, Reese Witherspoon, Emma Stone, Bradley Cooper, Keira Knightley and Benedict Cumberbatch appear on seven covers (the latter two together). Thirty-seven actors are featured as nominees in W’s best performances spread — including the cover stars and 29 others, from Edward Norton to Jessica Chastain. Selected and penned by editor at large Lynn Hirschberg and photographed by Tim Walker (his images were inspired by David Hockney’s Los Angeles paintings and photographs and a Seventies “free-love” vibe),  Woodley’s work in “The Fault of Our Stars” and Adams’ portrayal of painter Margaret Keane in “Big Eyes” are highlighted as performances to watch.
