Tidjane Thiam

CEO, Prudential

Businessman Tidjane Thiam is the current CEO of Prudential and a former politician in his home country of Côte d’Ivoire. He graduated top of his class in 1986 from the École Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Paris and was offered a scholarship to join the McKinsey Fellows Programme. After some time with McKinsey, he returned in 1994 to work in government in Côte d’Ivoire, but left after he was arrested and detained during the 1999 military coup which overthrew the government. He declined a position offered by the new regime and rejoined McKinsey in Paris, before becoming senior executive at Aviva, followed by chief financial officer at Prudential until he assumed the role of chief executive in 2009.
