Legislation
Local Government operates in a legal framework established by the SA Parliament, primarily in the Local Government Acts but also in a range of other legislation - more information about Local Government can be found on our Local Government in SA page and on the Office for State/Local Government Relations website.
The LGA provides a range of tools to assist Councils in relation to meeting their legislative requirements. The Local Government Act and various other tools are being re-developed and updated for this site and will be available soon. Many of our Codes and Guidelines relate to roles and responsibilities under the Local Government Act 1999 and these can be found on our codes and guidelines page.
