Managing over $10 billion worth of infrastructure, and $8 billion worth of land and buildings, Councils play a major role in the economic life of the State.
Councils require funding and borrowing capacity to provide the support communities require. SA Councils have managed their finances conservatively with low debt and taxes just keeping pace with economic growth while grants have declined and responsibilities increased. Councils face a major challenge in funding infrastructure renewal and maintenance.
