Grants
The Royal Society provides a range of grant schemes to support the UK scientific community and foster collaboration between UK based and overseas scientists. Please note that we are unable to provide funding to Masters or PhD students.
We currently fund about 1500 researchers, including approximately 600 research fellows, through grant schemes. Read the case studies to learn more about the scientists to whom we provide long-term support.
The application and assessment process varies between the schemes but may include a shortlisting process, peer review and an interview. Funding decisions are made by the relevant appointment panel, which is usually chaired by a Fellow of the Royal Society.
Nearly £42 million is allocated each year to support excellence in science. Our funding sources include Parliamentary Grant as well as donations from individuals and organisations.
Each year we celebrate the Society's support for innovation in science and technology at a Labs to Riches event.
