Andrew Scheps Interview
We caught up with Grammy award-winning mix engineer Andrew Scheps at the recent AES Convention in Los Angeles. With credits ranging from Adele to Jay-Z, via Black Sabbath and Johnny Cash, Scheps is one of the most sought-after mix engineers out there. We get his opinion on in-the-box mixing, getting started in the industry and also find out more about his unconventional approach to using compression. Disclaimer: There was only a curtain between us and the trade show floor, so please forgive the background noise!
SOS visit The Church Studios with Paul Epworth
In his search for the perfect studio, award-winning British producer Paul Epworth (Adele, Florence + The Machine, Coldplay) happened upon an unusual space in North London with a rich creative heritage. The building has been a studio since the '80s, playing host to acts such as The Eurythmics, Bob Dylan and Radiohead, but in order to satisfy his exacting standards, it has undergone something of a transformation. We take a look around the stunning newly-renovated studio complex known as The Church, and talk to Paul about redesigning studios, his vintage EMI Neve console, and why he prefers to be on the same side of the glass as musicians.
