Senior Vice President, Communications and Public Policy, Google

As the senior vice president of communications and public policy at Google, Rachel Whetstone is one of the most important people in the communications world. After graduating from the University of Bristol, Whetstone joined Conservative Central Office before entering the private sector, working for Carlton Communications and Portland PR, the latter of which she co-founded. She later returned to Westminster in 2003 as political secretary to Michael Howard, but in 2005 joined Google in California after he stood down as party leader. In 2013 Whetstone was voted one of the 100 most powerful women in the UK by Woman’s Hour on BBC Radio 4. She and her husband Steve Hilton, chief strategy adviser to David Cameron, have been labelled the Tory power couple.
