Andrew Wolstenholme, OBE

Chief Executive, Crossrail

The man in charge of one of the most ambitious engineering projects of this or any other age, chief executive of Crossrail Andrew Wolstenholme wields huge influence in the construction sector. He graduated from the University of Southampton with a first class degree in Civil Engineering before serving in the British Army for several years, first with the Royal Engineers and later in the Queen’s Royal Irish Hussars. He left to pursue a career in engineering, working as a bridge designer for Arup in Chicago and Hong Kong. He returned to the UK to work on the Heathrow Express rail link as Construction Director for BAA, and later became Programme Director on the £4.3 billion development of Heathrow’s Terminal 5. After spending a couple of years at Balfour Beatty, he took up the post at Crossrail in 2011 and was awarded an OBE in 2009 for his services to the construction industry.
