General Sir Nick Carter

Chief of the General Staff

In early 2014, General Sir Nick Carter was appointed as the head of the British army, taking office last September. The former commander of British Forces in Afghanistan has assumed a challenging role, with the various obstacles currently facing the armed forces including the cuts to military spending. In his role as chief of the general staff, Carter is accountable for generating and evolving the UK’s military capability from an integrated army and for preserving the fighting efficacy, competence and morale of the service.
