The Varsity Match

10.12.15
Twickenham, London

This titanic annual struggle between the rugby teams of England’s two oldest universities, Oxford and Cambridge, dates to 1872, when Oxford hosted the first ever Varsity Match, the ‘Battle of the Blues’. The match has been held at Twickenham since 1921.

Cambridge leads the series overall, but the dark blues are closing the gap, with a run of consecutive wins.

Thousands of rugby fans - many of them Oxbridge graduates - make the annual pilgrimage to south-west London to cheer on their teams. The Varsity match is widely regarded as the pinnacle of amateur and student rugby, and is a great day out for rugby enthusiasts.
