Preparing the Ushers
On the wedding day, the ushers are expected to help things run smoothly and efficiently. It is important that the ushers realise that they are not off-duty once the wedding ceremony is over; they should be ready to help out throughout the day and evening.
The best man (and groom if he chooses to) should brief the ushers in advance, including the order of service, the reserved seating plan, any car parking or transport logistics, the procedure at the reception and rough timings of the wedding day.
Ushers should all have their mobile phones with them on the wedding day, and the chief usher should also have a list of contact numbers for key people, such as the chief bridesmaid, groom, caterer and venue manager, just in case of emergency. It is a good idea to have a car on standby for last minute drop-offs or collections.
