Colin Smith, CBE

Engineering and Technology Director, Rolls-Royce

Rolls-Royce Group Engineering and Technology Director Colin Smith joined the company as a sponsored undergraduate trainee after studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Southampton. He then progressed through various roles including Chief Engineer, during which he worked on the Anglo French RTM322 engine in Apache and Merlin helicopters, and Research and Technology Director. In 2005 he was appointed Engineering and Technology Director and became an executive director of the Rolls-Royce Group. Among his greatest accolades are his Royal Academy Silver Medal, which he won in 2002, and in his appointment as Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the Queen’s 2013 Birthday Honours list. He is also a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Royal Aeronautical Society.
