James Murphy

Founder, Adam&Eve DDB

Those outside the advertising world may not know his name, but James Murphy is the man behind the nation’s beloved John Lewis adverts, including this year’s Monty the Penguin and last year’s The Bear and the Hare. Murphy embarked on his advertising career at Bates, working in the post room before joining Ogilvy as a graduate trainee, where he spent four years. Murphy went on to join RKCR where he stayed for the next eleven years, working with brands including Virgin Atlantic, Lego and Marks and Spencer and being promoted to managing director in 2003. CEO status followed the next year. Under Murphy’s leadership, the agency grew from number thirteen to number six in the UK. He co-founded Adam&Eve in 2008 and within two years it was named Creative Agency of the Year, merging with DDB in 2012. No doubt Murphy and his team will be tugging at British heartstrings for Christmases to come.
