DIRECTORS, SERPENTINE GALLERY

Co-directors of the Serpentine Gallery Hans-Ulrich Obrist and Julia Peyton-Jones have been consistently voted high on the ArtReview’s Power 100 over the past few years. Having put on an exhibition in his kitchen whilst still a student in Switzerland, today Obrist is a well-respected art critic, curator and historian as well as an honorary fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects. He has lectured around the world at academic and art institutions, and contributes regularly to several magazines. Peyton-Jones followed a different route, having studied painting at the Royal College of Art. After a short time lecturing at the Edinburgh College of Art she became curator at the Hayward Gallery before joining the Serpentine in 1991, overseeing its refurbishment and inaugurating the annual Serpentine Gallery Pavilion.
