Malala Yousafzai

Campaigner

Rehabilitated in the United Kingdom after she was shot in the head by the Taliban, the student and activist has become a global icon in the fight for education. Malala wrote a blog for the BBC from the age of 11 under a pseudonym detailing her life under Taliban rule. Known in her home country of Pakistan for her activism in education and women’s rights, she was targeted by a Taliban gunman whilst returning home on a school bus in October 2012. In November 2012, United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon announced that the 10th November would be celebrated as Malala Day, and 2014 saw her become the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in history. The Malala Fund strives to give children around the world a proper education. Her bravery continues to inspire the international community.
