Tracey Emin, CBE

ARTIST

Perhaps still best-known for her infamous 1999 installation of her own dirty, fluid-ridden, unmade bed, Tracey Emin is still one of the biggest names on Britain’s modern art scene. Despite a difficult childhood which has since provided much of the raw material behind her art, Emin went on to study at Maidstone College of Art and the Royal College of Art. She emerged as one of the leading figures of the Young British Artists of the 1990s, making a name for herself with the 1995 pop-up tent embroidered with the names of everyone she had slept with. 1999 saw My Bed nominated for the Turner Prize, and since then, Emin has represented Britain at the 52nd Venice Biennale, been appointed professor of drawing at the Royal Academy, and joined the Royal Academy as a Royal Academician.
