Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Montreal, Canada

The Canadian Grand Prix takes place once again Montreal. Always a popular event, the Canadian Grand Prix draws crowds of up to 300,000 people, and is one of the sport's best-attended events.

The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is a street circuit located on a man-made island in the St Lawrence River. Normally a leafy island, populated by walkers, cyclists and joggers, it is transformed in the days before the race into a world-class track. Barriers are placed very near the track, catching many drivers out. A famous trap is the so-called Mur de Québec on the outside exit of the final chicane; it ended the race for three champions in 1999 hand has been nicknamed the "wall of Champions".

In the weeks leading up the Grand Prix, city officials trap as many groundhogs as they can in and around the racecourse, and transport the animals to nearby Ile Ste-Helene. Neverthess, drivers have been known to strike the animals during practice sessions.
