Lord Martin Rees of Ludlow, kt, OM

Cosmologist, Astrophysicist, Emeritus Professor of Cosmology and Astrophysics, University of Cambridge

A previous president of the Royal Society and Master of Trinity College Cambridge, Martin Rees has had a highly impressive scientific career in cosmology and astrophysics. After studying at Cambridge he went on to hold post-doctoral positions at institutions around the world, including Princeton, before becoming a professor at Sussex University and later back at Cambridge. He was appointed Astronomer Royal in 1995 and later became a fellow of the Royal Society. On top of his research, Sir Martin has also lectured and written widely on science and policy, authoring several books over the years. He currently conducts research into high energy astrophysics and cosmic structure formation.
