HRH Prince Henry of Wales

Co-organiser, Invictus Games

Most members of the Royal Family do their bit for good causes. Several do so with impressive energy and effect. But it is hard to think of any royal who has almost single-handedly dragged a cause on to the front pages with as much passion and conviction as Prince Harry did with the Invictus Games. Over 400 competitors from 13 nations competed in the games, which are named after the Latin for ‘Undefeated.’ Launched in 2014 by the prince, they were set up for injured armed services personnel to participate in various sports, including wheelchair basketball and indoor rowing. Speaking at their launch, Prince Harry stated that the long-term aim of the games was to ensure injured troops would not be forgotten following the end of Britain’s on-going involvement in Afghanistan.
