Bespoke

Some brides are lucky enough to know a dressmaker who can make their wedding dress for them; a bespoke wedding dress is many brides' dream.

The bride should gather ideas from magazines and create a storyboard for her dress; she should be very cautious of just recreating a dress she's seen as wedding dress designs are copyrighted.

Agree a price before the process begins: this may be a cost per hour or a fixed price, but remember this will not include fabric costs.

Check that the dressmaker is up to the job: ask to see examples of their work and check that they have made other similar items. Talk about timings with your dressmaker and make a schedule.

Ensure you have plenty of fittings and keep up good communication with the person who's making the dress. Explore different fabric choices and details: remember, you can choose what you like!
