The Responsibilities of the Bride

There are certain things that the bride must plan and organise. Depending on how the wedding is being structured, the bride's mother may help her fulfil her duties and get her jobs done.

See must choose the bridal party - chief bridesmaid and adult bridesmaids, baby bridesmaids or pageboys - and making her expectations of them known. The decision must be made on the choice of their outfits and ensuring that they fit properly.

Her wedding dress, jewellery, shoes, veil, headpiece and other accessories must be chosen. A hairdresser and make-up artist, if required, need to be booked. It needs to be decided whether other members of the bridal party - mother, chief bridesmaid and adult bridesmaids - will need their hair and make-up done on the wedding day.

The bride should advise the chief bridesmaid of any expectations she may have for the hen party, and whom she wants to attend.

She must choose all the flowers for the wedding party (bouquets and buttonholes), ceremony venue and the reception.

She should also oversee the writing of thank you letters when the couple return from honeymoon.
