Sir Michael Wilshaw

Chief Inspector of Schools in England and Head of Ofsted

In 2012, Sir Michael Wilshaw was appointed to the position of chief inspector of schools in England. As head of the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted), Wilshaw leads the independent organisation responsible for regulating and carrying out inspections of those services that care for children and young people. Prior to taking on this position, Wilshaw spent 43 years as a teacher in various London schools, 26 of which were spent as a head teacher. In addition, Wilshaw was director of education for ARK, the charitable education trust which runs numerous academies across England.
