Sir Andre Geim

Physicist

Dutch-British physicist Sir Andre Geim is currently Regius Professor of Physics and Royal Society Research Professor at the University of Manchester Centre for Mesoscience and Nanotechnology. Born in Russia to German parents, Geim began his scientific career in Moscow before spending several years as a postdoctoral researcher at the universities of Nottingham, Bath and Copenhagen, joining the University of Manchester in 2001. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in 2010 for his work on grapheme, as well as the Ig Nobel Prize in 2000 for his out-of-the- ordinary work on levitation.
