Sir Nicholas Hytner and Nick Starr, CBE

Director and Executive Director, National Theatre

The influence wielded by National Theatre directors Nicholas Hytner and Nick Starr is difficult to overstate. Starr joined the iconic National Theatre in 2002 as executive director, followed by Hytner in 2003 as director, and since then, the duo have made waves in the theatre world by making theatre available to all, through reasonably-priced tickets and production streaming to cinemas across the UK and the world. Major hits during their time in charge include War Horse and The History Boys. While the duo step down as directors later this year, their influence is set to remain steady, the Nicks going on to form a new company which will stage innovative West End shows.
